The " 5 Werelddelen" : Entrepot Docklands at "de Kop van Zuid"
The Entrepot Area in Rotterdam marked a pioneering initiative as the first large-scale private development in the detoriated old docklands. The city of Rotterdam demonstrated its fierce ambition in redeveloping the city, with leadership at the town hall producing a masterplan "Kop van Zuid " that included a new bridge over the river to connect these old and fully neglected neighborhoods directly to the city center. The question then arose: who would have the courage to step in as an incubator and start the rebuilding of this piece of the city?
The city invitated a selected group of developers in a competition to come up with ideas on the redevelopment of an old shipping warehouse and it s premises around the dock. Peter, project Manager at Mabon came up with an innovative waterfront concept featuring private housing and themed retail spaces in the warehouse known as "The 5 Continents," alongside restaurants, a hotel, a parking garage, and an inner-city marina. The concept was based on the multicultural population in these neighborhoods, the historic past from the dock and immediate market needs for quality housing.
From the outset, we worked closely with the city officials to define common ambitions, goals, and objectives. As pioneers in this urban development, we created a pool of Rotterdam entrepreneurs and investors who served as the driving force behind this daring concept. Together, we made decisions, investments, and bolstered each other as partners on the path to the successful development of this unique warehouse building and inner harbor area, marking the launch of the Kop van Zuid redevelopment
Performance payment : Infraspeed
The Netherlands , Belgium and France literally connected by the decision to construct a pan-European high-speed railway line from Amsterdam to Paris .With the complexities of European regulations, new high-speed technology, and limited funds, three national Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) were established. (1 in each country) Numerous questions arose, from separate tender procedures to financing and completing the Dutch track on time, on budget, and with the highest standards of rail system operations and track safety.
As Director of the Board at Siemens Netherlands, Peter spearheaded the creation of a unique international consortium to secure a €2.5 billion High-speed Rail PPP contract from the Dutch government, including private financing. This contract, structured in a revolutionary "DBFOM" (Design-Build-Finance-Operate-Maintain) framework, featured a tailor-made performance fee payment model based on the availability of high-speed track technology. The success of winning and delivering within this framework was marked by enormous team-building within the INFRASPEED consortium. This collaboration was not only about relying on each other but also about leveraging the top-notch knowledge brought in by each company. This led to a management culture built on trust and reliability, with team members supporting one another throughout the project's execution. Even after project completion, individuals from various companies maintained personal connections, reflecting the enduring bonds forged during this transformative project.
Technology Partnership: Formula1 Mercedes McLaren
When it comes to a sponsorship contract for us it is very important to consider: the value for money, are the sponsor packages activated in a proper way, are goals achieved and very important ... are both parties happy !?!
The Sponsorship agreement between Mercedes McLaren and Siemens needed some adjustments: nobody was really happy with the situation. Simply said there was a huge sum of money paid for some advertising space on the F1 car and executive hospitality. This was a basic, passive and not innovative concept. Nobody benefitted on the partnership. Could there be a meaningful leverage between those 2 industrial giants, Mercedes McLaren and Siemens?
Peter's corporate career is marked by successful restructuring of marketing, PR, and sponsor campaigns. Here a transformation of the global sponsorship between Siemens AG and Formula 1 Mercedes McLaren into a dynamic 'technology partnership' was created between both of them, shifting away from that cash payment contract.
The partnership involved both parties actively in an alliance, with dedicated personnel stationed at McLaren Headquarters in Woking, Surrey, UK, and "virtual team engineering hubs" established in both Germany and the UK.
This innovative approach positioned
* Siemens as a true partner providing cutting-edge technology in vehicle electronics and communication systems to help Mercedes McLaren win multiple F1 world championships.
* And as a technologic leader in the automotive industry.
This strategic partnership approach also paved the way for an official partnership with FC Bayern Munich, where Siemens upgraded the Allianz Arena with new sustainable solutions, resulting in operational cost savings as an added value proposition.
